How does this text deal with individuals and groups? Are the people acting alone and in competition with one another, or does the text help us imagine people working together?
I just recently finished My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult. In this story there is s lot of about social issues and different hardships in life. The characters in the book are a family. They are definitely not a perfect family but one none the less. Even though in the book, Anna, who is one of the daughters is suing her parents for the right to her own body. Anna has a sister named Kate who has a very rare form of cancer, and Anna has to be her donor. Every time Kate is at the hospital so is Anna. Kate and Anna are as close as you could possibly get to someone they are really each others only friends because they both miss school a lot. Back to the point. Even when Anna sues them, they act as one. The whole family still is very close even when the lawsuit is going on. There is some competition in the courtroom but thats only because the judge is pushing them to their limits. Its hard to stay close when something like that us happening but they manage to do it. They work together to help keep Kate alive and to stay as close as they possibly can.
Every person in that family is a unique person with completely different personalities but they some how connect and its a family.
