Romeo and Juliet essay

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespere is the book that I just finished. Romeo changes throughout the story, because at first he is depressed and lovesick over Rosaline, who does not love him back. Then as soon as he meets Juliet, he is happy and very much in love with her. He completely forgets about Rosaline after he met Juliet. This change affects the people around him, because he wants to stop the fighting between the two houses. He is in love with a capulet, Who happens to be his family, The Montagues enemy.

Romeo changes throughout the story, and the first time I noticed this change was the night of the capulet's party, where he met Juliet for the first time. He fell in love with her at first sight, and instantly forgot about Rosaline. He was so in love with Juliet that he went and visited her that night, knowing that he was risking his life, because she was a capulet. He climbed up the orchard wall to talk to her. While there, he pulled out the charm. [direct quote from the text]
They fell deeply in love with each other, even though they both knew it was dangerous and they could never be together.

Throughout the story, Romeo goes through a change, that effects a lot of people. The second time I noticed this change, was after the party at the capulet's house where he first met Juliet. The next morning, he went to talk to Friar Laurence, and told him that he was in love with another girl (Juliet) who he wanted to marry. [direct quote from text] The friar was very confused because just the day before, he was depressed and in love with Rosaline who didn't love him back. Now he's talking about marrying another girl, whom he just met.

Another time I noticed a change with Romeos actions, was during the fight scene, with Tybalt and Mercutio. Tybalt approaches him after he tries to get Mercutio to stop fighting. Romeo then tries to shake Tybalts hand and keep the peace between the 2 houses. [direct quote from text] Tybalt doesn't accept the fact that Romeo doesn't want to fight anymore, because he wants to be friends with the capulets. Tybalt then killed Mercutio. Romeo was devastated and angry and later killed Tybalt out of his own grief.  At first he attempted to keep the peace between the families but after loosing his best friend, he did the one thing he promised not to do. Which was to kill someone.
[direct quote from text]

Romeo changes tremendously after meeting Juliet. First he is depressed and upset about Rosaline denying his love for her. He refuses to go outside and be happy, he's choosing to be sad. After meeting Juliet, a weight is lifted off his shoulders and the sorrow inside of him disappears. He is instantly happy. He wants to stop the fighting between the two families, he acts as a peacemaker during one of the fights but in the end, his anger overcomes his conscience.  After he strikes out on Tybalt he realizes the mistake that he has made, and is almost not able to live with myself and he feels like he can't love Juliet right. [direct quote from text] he thinks he doesn't deserve her.

The scorch trials (#2 reading response on this)

The last post I did on this book, I was only about halfway through the book. Now I'm almost finished with it. This book is suspenseful, and sometimes I couldn't stop myself from reading It. I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. In the book, a group of boys are put into this world where they have to do a bunch of tests. Then they run into some enemy's but the enemy's end up becoming the only way either of the teams can survive.

The book if filled with, action, adventure, suspense, and a little bit of romance in it somewhere. It's the perfect read. A quote from the text that I thought was a really good line was "A nightmare woke Thomas-something about Minho and Newt cornered by a bunch of cranks past the gone." Thomas is the main character and one of the leaders of the group. He had dreams, or flashes of images or videos that end up becoming real somehow. It's one of the many gifts that he has. So he can sometimes stop the bad things that show up in his head. This is one of the many times that he does this. When the cranks came to get them, Thomas was able to stop them from killing them all.

I'm so glad that I read this book, because I really like action and adventure books and it was a really enjoyable read.

Reading Response on The Scorch Trials

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner is the sequel to the book The Maze Runner. In this novel, Thomas and his companions are forced to do these trials because they escaped the maze. They are now in this desert area and the natives call it the scorch and nobody can survive the scorch trials. The heat is unbearable and they're running out of food and water, but thomas and his team are determined to complete the tasks and get out of that awful world.

The reason they have to do this is because in the real world for them, there is a terrible disease called the flare, and the people that sent Thomas to this desert area thinks that thomas and his friends are the source of this disease. They are all being punished for no reason at all.

I think that its incredibly unfair that they have to do all this stuff when they haven't even been in the real world yet. Thomas and everyone else are trying to find a way out before the end of the trials so they don't have to do any other bad stuff. Im only about halfway through the book, but since it is the second one in the series, I have an idea on whats going to happen.

Non fiction blogpost: Sleeping In space

Sleeping In Space, by Stephen Ornes

In the article that I recently read called Sleeping In space, I learned about how sleep is very different up in space. I learned how it can harm astronauts' sleep patterns. In a 520 day trial, scientists replaced fluorescent bulbs with blue lights to help avoid the sleeping problems. A trip to mars would take about 8 months on a modern spaceship, normally people would think that one could get a lot of sleep on a trip this long but recent studies have facts that prove that the longer you are on a spaceship the more it effects your sleeping habits.
In this experiment six men spent 520 days on a pretend trip to mars. The crew spent the entire time confined inside a small, windowless capsule in Moscow Russia. The goal of this test was to learn how people could cope with living in close quarters during travel to and from the red planet.
They watched their sleeping habits over the course of 74 weeks and towards the end they started sleeping more and more. Some of them developed sleeping problems such as becoming less alert and sleeping much more than necessary and another problem was sleeping when others were up and vie versa.
Messing with sleep can have some serious consequences A doctor from the Baylor college of medicine in Housten said it could be very risky playing with sleeping habits and can sometimes be life threatening.

Reading response on the maze runner

I am almost finished with the book "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner, it was an amazing story, a little bit like the hunger games but not exactly. A number of boys who are exceptionally smart are transported to this world where they are stuck in a maze and they have to find a way out. They come into this place called "the glade" only knowing one thing. Their name. The main characters name is Thomas, and there's something that makes him different from the rest of them. He feels like he has been in this place before, everything thing about it seems familiar to him. He doesn't tell anybody about it at first but then when another new person comes into the world in the same month, things just get weirder and weirder. He feels a connection with this girl and then to put the puzzle pieces in his head, he decides to go through the changing. The changing is a process that people go through when they get stung buy a griever. Which is a large creature that lives inside of the complicated maze. When he goes through it, he remembers bits and pieces of everything, and he figures out that he was one of the people that created the maze and brought all these kids into it. They had done it forcefully though.

I recommend this book to anyone who liked the hunger games or any other action or adventure books. It was griping and I couldn't stop reading it sometimes.

critical thinking thinking question number 2

How does this text address the points of view (perspectives) of other groups, especially those who usually don’t get to tell their side?

I am reading The Girl Who Fell From the Sky by Heidi W. Durrow In this book, it deals with a lot of racism and the economy and the hardships of being african american in the olden days. The book shows me the how a little girl who is half white and half black deals with fitting in at her new school. This little girls name is rachel and her parents have just recently died and she has gone to live with her grandma.

I just started reading this book, but it switches off with different perspectives. But in the one with rachel, she talks about how hard it is for her to be in a school with white kids and black kids because they judge her either way. The whites think she is too black and the blacks think she is too white. In the novel, Rachel feels like she is never going to be liked by any of the kids at her school because she will never really truly fit in.

Usually you don't always here the side of what its like to be a african american child in those days. You just hear about what its like for adults. I think that it wrong the way she is being treated by some people.
